K&A Thompson & Sons was formed in 1980, and originally they started sawing timber for the coal mines with a portable saw bench on the back of a Fordson Major tractor.

K&A Thompson were based in the corner of Lord Inglewoods land nr Ivegill, Carlisle, investing in a circular bandrack before moving to the present site on Crosscroft Industrial Estate in Appleby, where they have invested in a 48 and 36 bandrack and 42 resaw, in order to increase the capability and production.

Following the demise of the coalmines, K&A Thompson specialised in Oak and Larch beams and fencing, also drying timber and making oak flooring with skirting and architrave to match.

Recently K&A Thompson have installed a MEM Bandmill, which enables cutting of up to 10m lengths and has offered greater versatility and speed.

As a family business run by 3 brothers, K&A Thompson believe in giving the customer the most honest and cost effective advice and service. All our timber is locally sourced and not imported.

K&A Thompson offer a completely bespoke service, so phone us or call in to discuss any of your requirements.
